Geoff McKay - Chairman
Geoff McKay’s journey as a basketball player formally began in grade 4 when he enrolled in Penticton Mini Basketball, the original predecessor to Lake City Hoops founded by his father. He went on to lead the Pen Hi Lakers to two Okanagan Championships in 1984 and 1985, being named Okanagan MVP as well as a Provincial All Star in both years. In grade 12 he was named both BC High School Basketball Player of the Year and BC High School Athlete of the Year. Geoff then played 5 years for the UVic Vikings where he helped win a CIAU National Championship in 1986. He was a 3 time Canada West All Star and an Honourable Mention All-Canadian, and remains the all time Canada West leader in 3 point percentage and #2 all time in free throw percentage. During this period he was also a 3x member of the Canadian Junior National team. At UVic he was a 2x winner of the President’s Cup, given annually to the outstanding student-athlete in 4th or 5th year who best combines scholastic achievement and athletic ability. Geoff and Spencer McKay were teammates both at UVic and on the Canadian Junior National team. Since graduating from UVic Geoff has built a successful career in finance, most recently as a Managing Director with CPP Investments. He earned his MBA from the Wharton School of Business in 1997.
Chris Terris - Director
After more than 30 years of coaching, Chris and Dustin Hyde developed Lake City Basketball in 2016 with the intent of promoting and developing the game of basketball in the South Okanagan of British Columbia. Instrumental in developing provincially competitive programs at Dr. Kearney (Fort St. John), McNicoll Park Jr. Secondary (Penticton), Princess Margaret (Penticton) and Penticton Secondary School, Chris has guided teams to the provincial championships 8 times, reaching the provincial finals with the Princess Margaret Sr. Boys' Team (2003) and the Penticton Jr. Girls' Team (2010).
Dustin Hyde - Director
Born and raised in Penticton and a life long basketball enthusiast, Dustin has over 15 years of coaching basketball at all levels. From competitive high school girls and boys programs to introductory kindergarten 'tiny tot basketball camps', Dustin has dedicated much of his life to sharing his passion and love of the game, to youth in the South Okanagan. He is currently a district administrator of Indigenous Education for school district 67 and is committed to fostering excellence in education and athletics.
Spencer McKay
Dave Nackoney
As player, Dave led his high school team to a provincial championship, capturing the MVP of the Manitoba provincial championships. He was one of five players in the history of Manitoba high school basketball to be chosen to the All-Time Provincial Team. Dave went on to an incredible career at the University of Brandon, winning two National Championships. Dave was identified as a GPAC All-Star for three years during a five-year career. As a coach, Dave has had a long and distinguished career, coaching in both Manitoba and British Columbia. He is the last coach to guide Pen High to the Senior Boys’ Provincial Championship tournament (2002). Dave was selected the Coach of the Year by the British Columbia High School Basketball Association in 2001-2. Dave also developed the Penticton Minor Basketball Association.
Russ Reid
Russ Reid is an accomplished basketball coach with over 20 years of experience working with students in grades 4-12, both boys and girls. He has coached at five different schools in the South Okanagan and has led his teams at Princess Margaret, KVR Middle, and Pen High to nine provincial tournaments, including three semi-finals and two championship finals. Currently, Russ serves as a Vice Principal at Pen High.
Mo Basso
Maurizio Basso graduated from Prince Rupert Secondary School, where he played for BC Hall of Fame coach Mel Bishop. Basso played in two high school provincial championships. Upon graduation Maurizio attended Mount Royal College where he captained the team to its best finish, 2nd Place in the ACAC. Maurizio then transferred to UBC where he played with UBC Head Coach Kevin Hanson enroute to a National Championship appearance. Maurizio finished his playing days at UVIC where he teamed up with Geoff McKay, and Spencer McKay, capturing 2 national appearances. After graduation Maurizio coached Hazelton to its first zone championship and provincial berth in 25 years, and he also established the Spartan Summer basketball camps. Maurizio then moved to Oliver to coach the Hornets, over his 25 years at SOSS, Maurizio coached his teams to many zone and 4 valley championships, as well as capturing two provincial titles in 2009, and 2011.
Dustin Hyde - Director
Chris Terris - DirectorChris retired from the teaching profession in 2020 as the English Department Head at Penticton Secondary School. Along with his academic responsibilities, Chris worked as a Learning Strategies teacher with the Okanagan Hockey Academy from 2005-2020 and developed a Basketball Skills Course (2015) at Pen High. Chris also led Penticton students on a series of international humanitarian trips (2006-2012) to Ecuador and Peru as part of his International Studies program at Penticton Secondary School. After more than 30 years of coaching, Chris and Dustin Hyde developed Lake City Basketball in 2016 with the intent of promoting and developing the game of basketball in the South Okanagan of British Columbia. Instrumental in developing provincially competitive programs at Dr. Kearney (Fort St. John), McNicoll Park Jr. Secondary (Penticton), Princess Margaret (Penticton) and Penticton Secondary School, Chris has guided teams to the provincial championships 8 times, reaching the provincial finals with the Princess Margaret Sr. Boys' Team (2003) and the Penticton Jr. Girls' Team (2010). As a player, Chris captained his high school team (Seaquam, 1981) to a fourth place finish provincially and his college team (Douglas College, 1986) to a provincial championship and 3rd place finish Nationally.
